Directions to the Phoenix Gold Mine from 7 Different
Routes
(Directions written in text because of numerous requests!)
I guess my map isn't very good
:0( so I have been told...... :0)
If you are Coming from Denver Area or
East of Idaho Springs:
Take I-70 West to the third exit for Idaho Springs -
Exit 239 this will put you on a little frontage road, follow it around
the curve to the stop sign.
Take a Left at the stop sign (Colorado Blvd.) and another immediately
left (under I-70) on to Stanley Road, you will cross Clear Creek River,
Go up Stanley Road about a mile and take a left on your first dirt road
- Trail Creek Rd. Go up Trail Creek about a mile.
If you are Coming from the West:
Take I-70 East to the first exit for Idaho Springs, Exit 239, right at
the bottom of the off ramp, across the bridge over Clear Creek River ,
Go up Stanley Road about a mile and take a left on your first dirt road
- Trail Creek Rd. Go up Trail Creek about a mile.
If you are coming from Downieville or
Dumont:
Take the frontage road on the North side of the highway, (near the Gas
Station, Burger King and Subway), east of town until you come to the
bridge that crosses over I-70 - cross the bridge and take a left on to
the Frontage road on the South Side of I-70 - Stanley Road. Take Stanley
Road down about 5 miles until just before you get to Idaho Springs. (if
you get to the Old Stanley Mine ruins on Stanley road
you have gone too far about a half of a mile, turn back and then left
on Trail Creek. It is hard to see Trail Creek Road from the
West On Stanley Road) Take a right (unless you had to turn around :0)
on to Trail Creek Road. Go up Trail Creek about a mile to the Phoenix.
OR
Get on I-70 East to Exit 239, take a right at the bottom of the off
ramp, on to Stanley Road. Go up Stanley Road about a mile
and take a left on Trail Creek. Go up Trail Creek About a mile to the
Phoenix.
If you are coming from Hwy. 103 - Mt
Evans:
Get on I-70 as you come to it in Idaho Springs, (Cross the bridge and
take I-70 West on ramp)
Take I-70 west to next (last) Idaho Springs exit - Exit 239, this will
put you on a little frontage road, follow it around the curve to the
stop sign.
Take a Left at the stop sign (Colorado Blvd) and another immediately
left (under I-70) on to Stanley Road, you will cross Clear Creek River,
Go up Stanley Road about a mile and take a left on your first dirt road
- Trail Creek Rd. Go up Trail Creek about a mile.
If you are coming from Central City,
Black Hawk or Boulder over the Oh My Gawd Road:
Take Oh My Gawd road to Colorado Blvd. in Idaho Springs. Take a left on
to Colorado Blvd. (headed East). Just as you get to where
you can get on I-70 west, take a left on to Stanley Road. It goes under
I-70 and across Clear Creek. Take Stanley Road about a mile to the
first
dirt road on the left - Trail Creek Road. Take Trail Creek about
another mile to the Phoenix Gold Mine!
If you take the new Central City
Parkway to the Phoenix Gold Mine:
When The Central City Parkway meets I-70 at Hidden Valley - go under
I-70 to the frontage road on the south side of the highway,
take the frontage road that goes around the tunnel into Idaho
Springs, as you come across the bridge into Idaho Springs you
will be on Colorado Blvd. Take Colorado Blvd. all the way through Idaho
Springs until you get to where you can get on I-70 West - at the end of
town.
Just as you get to where you can get on I-70 west, take a left on to
Stanley Road. It goes under
I-70 and across Clear Creek. Take Stanley Road about a mile to the
first
dirt road on the left - Trail Creek Road. Take Trail Creek about
another mile to the Phoenix Gold Mine!
*This route is not shown on the map
above since the road is so new. But you enter Idaho Springs on the East
end of town right at the first exit off of I-70 for Idaho Springs.
If you are coming from Hwy. 40
(Empire, Winter Park, Grand or Granby, Rock Mountain National or
Steamboat):
Hwy. 40 south to I-70 East. Take I-70 East to the first exit for Idaho
Springs, Exit 239, right at the bottom of the off ramp, across the
bridge over Clear Creek River ,
Go up Stanley Road about a mile and take a left on your first dirt road
- Trail Creek Rd. Go up Trail Creek about a mile.
